WHAT DOES THE ROLE OF A MENTOR ENTAIL?

Our mentors participate in the day-to-day parenting of our young people, as well as this you will need to be able to maintain accurate records, deal with practical problems and be proactive in your approach to work. It will also be important for you to understand, empathise, set and maintain boundaries, motivate, encourage, support and be a part of a strong dynamic team.

I HAVE NO CHILDCARE; CAN I DO IT PART-TIME?

Absolutely, we can be flexible whether you’re a part-time or full-time Mentor.

DO I NEED RELEVANT EXPERIENCE TO BE A MENTOR?

Experience is not essential for a Mentor position, however, some knowledge in childcare legislation, procedures and residential childcare is desirable but full training would be provided.

WILL I NEED TO TRAVEL BETWEEN HOMES?

Yes, travelling would be required to accommodate the various homes we have and to ensure there is a fair working rota.

HOW LONG IS THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS TO BECOME A MENTOR?

Once your application has been reviewed, you would be invited to an introductory interview, followed by a formal interview. If successful, your DBS would be sent off, references contacted and an Induction will be arranged. Once in receipt of a satisfactory DBS and references, your trial shift would be arranged. We would then invite you for a feedback interview where we would confirm whether you are successful.

IS THERE A FORM I CAN COMPLETE TO EXPRESS MY INTEREST BEFORE COMMITTING TO THE FULL APPLICATION?

Yes, we have an expression of interest form you can fill out before committing to the full application.

WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED TO BE A MENTOR?

Being computer literate is essential. Experience is desired but not essential as full training would be provided. All we ask is that you are prepared to take the very best care of our Young People.

CAN I EARN A LIVING BEING A MENTOR?

Absolutely, how much you can earn would depend on whether you apply for a part-time or a full- time position.

DO I GET FOOD ON SHIFT?

Of course, our homes are stocked for the Young Person so whilst making lunch for the Young Person you are welcome to make yourself some as well.

Whilst travelling for work we will reimburse you for food you have purchased.

WHAT IS THE SHIFT PATTERN OF A MENTOR?

Our shifts are 24 hours, including a sleep in (16 hrs + sleep in), this is based on a full-time position.

DO I HAVE TO DO SLEEP IN SHIFTS?

Sleep-ins will be required, your amount of sleep-ins will be calculated based on a part-time or full-time contract.

DO I NEED AN ENHANCED DBS TO BECOME A MENTOR?

Due to the nature of the Role and responsibilities an enhanced DBS would be required.

If you have any pre-existing convictions, this does not automatically disqualify you from being able to apply. Please disclose these on your application and we will discuss them with you.

ARE REFERENCES CONTACTED BEFORE A FORMAL INTERVIEW?

If you are successful after a formal interview, you will be sent a draft contract to read. Once you have confirmed you are happy to continue, we will then contact references.
