About us

Anderida Adolescent Care was established in 1991 by Managing Director, Brian Thompson, in recognition of a lack of adequate provision for the more problematic adolescent. The aim was to provide an innovative solution to the placement problems of children aged 11+. Over the years, we have been proud to be able to boast excellent achievements with young people who, on admission, found themselves in a situation as a result of multiple breakdowns of placement. Their outlook was often very bleak in fact, we were often used as a holding placement whilst awaiting a secure bed and, only as a result of dramatic behaviour change were they able to retain their freedom.

In January 2006, the Company welcomed four new Directors to the Board, Erica Scott, Tania Johnson, Kerry Shoesmith and Will Williams, joining existing Managing Director Brian and Finance Director, Hazel Pries. The four new Directors share a fresh and modern approach to the aims and objectives of the organisation whilst still maintaining the innovative solutions and practice of the original vision.

As a small organisation, we continue to specialise in individual, tailored packages of care. We aim to provide a unique and innovative solution to the placement difficulties encountered with children whose disturbed and disruptive behaviour limits the options available to them.

Our Aim

Typically, the young men and women who are referred to Anderida will have suffered early physical, sexual and emotional abuse and deprivation and inconsistent or inadequate care and control. As a result, they may have developed acute behavioural symptoms. They may have experienced a number of failed placements, have unrealised vocational or educational abilities, have difficulties in forming positive relationships and be unable to separate historical causes from the consequent presenting problems. Our aim is to work in partnership with carers to provide high quality, flexible programmes of child care and support to young people who for whatever reason are being looked after by a local authority.

The Staff Team

The staff team are committed to providing an environment which facilitates each young persons growth, maturation, self respect, acceptance of responsibility and development of age appropriate skills and behaviour. We aim to provide an experience of care that is sensitive to the individuals needs and supports their racial, gender, sexual, cultural and religious identity. This is within the context of the need to provide young people with positive adult role models, guidance and boundaries, achieved within a manner which respects their rights, individuality and dignity.

As part of this process, at all times we will ensure that the wishes of the young person, their carers and other involved parties are sought and that their participation in the care planning process is enabled.

As a small organisation, we specialise in individual, tailored packages of care and can accommodate young people of either gender, in single or dual occupancy Homes. We also have resources in place to accommodate emergency placements.

Our Homes are registered with Ofsted, The Welsh Consortium and the South East Area Consortium.
